Samoan Armchair Archaeologists?Have you ever wanted to be Indiana Jones, Lara Croft, Sydney Fox or Benjamin Gates?Due to a wonder of modern technology, LiDAR (see: CSS – Map Server - Main Map), the Centre for Samoan Studies at the National University of Samoa (CSS/NUS) has made available extraordinary images (see example below) of the Independent State of Samoa showing a vast expanse of ancient villages and archaeological features (platforms, star mounds, walls, walkways, earth ovens, drainage channels, forts, terraces, and more) that blanket this underexplored archipelago (see: CSS - Map Server – LiDAR Information). Assist the CSS/NUS team in documenting these extraordinary finds. Come to their aid, and the aid of Samoan Archaeology and Cultural Heritage in general, by adding your skills and efforts to help reveal the extent of this priceless treasure. |
