Tony Brunt as part of the Centre for Samoan Studies Seminar and film series had a presentation examining the pictorial content of the ‘Unseen Samoa 1908-1915: The Karl Hanssen Photo Album”, at the National University of Samoa on Wednesday, 24 July 2019. “The album features several hundred photographs taken on Upolu and Savai’i by company employees and gives an unprecedented insight into many aspects of Samoan society during the German era.”
Tony Brunt is an Auckland based writer and historical researcher specialising in the pictorial history of early Samoa. He is a volunteer photo archivist and consultant for the Museum of Samoa and in 2016 published the 250 page book, ” To walk under palm trees: The Germans in Samoa-Snapshots from Albums (vol. 1).” Tony is of Samoan, English and German descent and has family connections to villages in Samoa.
