Dr Ethan Cochrane opened up the first seminar for the Centre for Samoan Studies Seminar and Film series 2019 on the 21st February at the National University of Samoa.
Dr Cochrane “summarised the archaeological knowledge of Samoan land use and agricultural intensification” in his discussion of his presentation titles “What are the origins of Samoan Chiefly Society?” He also introduced their research in Falefa Valley that “tracks change in these innovations to determine their role in the origins of Samoan chiefly society.”
Dr Ethan Cochrane is an Associate Professor in Anthropology at the University of Auckland and was formerly a lecturer at University College London Institute of Archaeology. He received his PhD from the University of Hawaii in 2004 and has conducted work and research in Hawaii, Micronesia, Fiji, Samoa, and Papua New Guinea.
