In early March (5th-6th) 2020, Associate Professor and Director for the Centre for Samoan Studies Safua Akeli Amaama presented at the conference Beyond Collections: New Ethics for Museums in Transition at the National Museum of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam. She presented an impulse lecture and was a panel member on the theme of ‘Reviewing the Status Quo: Current debates on collections from colonial contexts and restitution – ethical, legal and economic aspects’. As the only representative from the Pacific region, she was able to network with colleagues from Africa, Germany and the United Kingdom on issues about the future role of museums and cultural centres. The conference was kindly funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, Museum am Rothenbaum (MARKK), Berlin Postkolonial e. V., the National Museum of Tanzania and the Goethe-Institut of Tanzania.
