To view zipped map file: 1. Install ArcGIS Explorer Desktop [free] [http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/explorer-desktop/download] 2. Download the CSS Samoa BaseMap.zip file. [Also at the top of the main map page.] 3. Unzip this file FIRST to the "C:\CSS_GIS_Explorer" directory You only need to do this ONCE. (MUST use this directory for maps to work. This is the base map upon which all the other maps are drawn.) 4. Unzip other files (eg: Jackmond78.zip) to the "C:\CSS_GIS_Explorer" directory as well. (Again, MUST use this directory for ALL maps to work properly.) 5. Open: [map file].nmf (eg: J78_Savaii.nmf) from the "C:\CSS_GIS_Explorer" diectory. (file should open in "ArcGIS Explorer Desktop") |

Options Available in "LiDAR Evidence – Settlement Patterns" : 1. Inside the "CSS Samoa BaseMap" a. Villages [non-active: turn on with checkmark] [Right click (high light), then TOOLS, then ATTRIBUTE TABLE for more data] b. Rivers [active] c. Roads [active] d. Height contour [non-active: turn on with checkmark] e. Reefs [non-active: turn on with checkmark] f. Costal_region [non-active: turn on with checkmark] f. Land Mass [active] 2. This map contains the following data and maps: a. Palauli East LiDAR [active] Palauli East LiDAR immages in bare earth/ hillshade (DEM) format, enlarge as needed b. Palauli West LiDAR [active] Palauli West LiDAR immages in bare earth/ hillshade (DEM) format, enlarge as needed c. Palauli East – LiDAR Settlement Patterns [active] Possible settlements (beigh overlay) areas of possible settlements as seen from LiDAR images, enlarge as needed d. Palauli West – LiDAR Settlement Patterns [active] Possible settlements (purple overlay) areas of possible settlements as seen from LiDAR images, enlarge as needed e. Letolo Survey - Settlement Patterns [active] Possible settlements (purple overlay) areas of possible settlements as seen from LiDAR images, enlarge as needed On LiDAR maps, possible walls appear as elevated lines, elevated walkways as wider elevated lines, walled walkways as parallel lines, platforms as elevated rectangles and shapes, and umuti as concentric circles. Gray pixilated areas indicate heavy forest growth that obscures LiDAR returns. Note: More or less settlement results may be seen depending on your own interpretation. |
